How to wrestle like a pro
When you think about wrestling, usually the physical comes to mind. You know, two guys in tights grappling each other. Or maybe pro wrestling with the gaudy costumes and huge personalities yelling challenges to their opponents and then pulling off some truly impressive acrobatics on their way to victory. Wrestling is just about strength and agility and being able to pile drive the other guy, right? Right? Not exactly. The mental aspect of wrestling is as important as the pulling off a reversal on your opponent. If you can beat the other guy in your head, then you can beat him in the ring. Wrestling matches are one on one and are pretty short, going in there with all strut and no thought will likely mean you’re the one that gets pinned to the mat. Mental preparation is as much a part of the sport as having a work out routine. Here’s some things to keep in mind.Positive attitude: As with all things a positive attitude is key to achieving success.Strength in the fundamentals: Good wrestlers can become great wrestlers when they know the fundamentals and use that solid base to build up on. that means having the mental fortitude to practice and strive to get better. That’s strength in the head.Style: each wrestler has their own style, something hat sets them apart. This style will play to your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. Knowing yourself is the only sure way to develop a style and that all starts in the old brain box.Competition: This is not a sport for the feint of spirit. You need the drive and want to succeed in wrestling or you will not last long. It takes a certain kind of competitive mind to prosper in the sport of wrestling.Mental toughness: You will probably lose. Don’t let that get you down, learn from your mistakes, get up and be better. It takes strength of mind to pick yourself up off the mat and do it again tomorrow without letting defeat get you down.
